The YWCA Safety Alert App is an iPhone App designed to enhance the safety of young women at any time and anywhere. A simple tap on the alert button or a shake of the phone in an emergency situation activates an alarm which gives off a loud shrilling sound to attract the attention of passer-bys within the vicinity. A discrete distress signal for help will also be sent to the user’s pre-set list of emergency contacts via a pre-programmed email message. The approximate location of the user will also be shown as part of the distress email message.
An emergency phone call can also be made to the pre-selected person on the user's contact list. Other features of the App include a time-table function for users to manage their daily schedule and to-do list of tasks; as well as a regularly updated section with quizzes and articles from the notebook publication. There is also section on available helplines in Singapore for users who are seeking advice and counselling on various issues. The YWCA Safety Alert App is now available on the Apple App Store and Google Play.
