Volunteer Opportunities
 

 CraftWorks

1. Teaching and Making of Handicrafts

  • To teach the participants handicraft skills, such as sewing, knitting and crochet.
  • To join in the regular handicraft sessions to make handcrafted items.

 

2. Sale of Handicrafts

  • To help us sell the handicrafts individually in their free time to raise funds for YWCA.
  • To help in the sale of handicrafts at YWCA stalls or other fund raising events such as the YWCA Christmas Bazaar.

 

Connexion

1. English Class Teacher

  • To teach participants English in the four components: speaking, reading, writing and comprehending.
  • To commit to a minimum period of 6 months for 1.5-2 hours per week.
  • Prior experience as an English teacher or tutor welcomed, but not necessary so long as proficient in English.

2. Teaching and Making of Handicrafts

  • To teach the participants handicraft skills, such as sewing, knitting and crochet.

 

3. Personal Enrichment Workshops/Talks

  • Volunteers who have skills to impart to our participants that will enrich their lives.
  • To conduct the workshops/talks for participants.
  • Topics can be budgeting skills, beauty skills, IT skills, culinary skills etc.

 

 Educational Support Unit (ESU)

We welcome volunteers who have a passion for working with children with special needs.

  • To conduct the reading/phonics/mathematics/group drama programme for the children
  • To render help at the respective Child Care Centres
  • Preparation of teaching materials

 

 Hungry No More

1. Donation of Food Supplies

  • To donate food supplies for preparation of the meals.
  • To donate food ration items for the beneficiaries.

 

2. Delivery of Food Rations

  • Volunteers who possess their own vehicles to donate and deliver food rations to beneficiaries.

 

3. Ad Hoc Programmes

  • Organise outings/activites for elderly/children.
  • Organise celebrations for elderly/children (e.g. Chinese New Year, National Day, Christmas etc).

 

YWCA Kids' Club

Volunteers must have a passion for children! 

Volunteers need to be 16 years and above and are required to commit to a minimum period of 6 months.

 

1. Tuition and Character Building Programme

  • To tutor children in all academic subjects.
  • To be proactive in preparing materials to aid children in their studies.
  • To plan and conduct thematic activities that target children's life skills and character development.

 

2. Befriending

  • To interact and befriend the children.
  • To offer emotional and social support to the children.

 

3. Ad Hoc Programmes

  • Organise and facilitate outings/skills development activites for children.
  • Organise celebrations for children (e.g. Chinese New Year, National Day, Christmas)
  • Organise and conduct children's camp.

 

4. Donation of Materials that Enhance Children's Learning

  • To donate educational materials such as assessment books, story books, or DVDs (educational, cartoons).
  • To donate stationary such as pencils, erasers, colour pencils etc.

  • To volunteer in our fund raising projects on an ad-hoc basis.
